As fun as mountain biking looks, or any kind of cycling championship for that matter, it is quite difficult and requires a lot of hard work and dedication. Here are some of Indias best female MTB champions.
1.Mahitha Mohan
She has been a national champion in multiple road, track, and mountain bike events. Named Indias best cyclist in 2010, she was the 50 km Mass Start gold medal winner in the 2010 South Asian Games.
2.Pranita Sonam
The key to winning is staying focused during the race, says Sonam, who is from Sangamner, a city and municipal council located in Ahmednagar. Sonam was studying to become a medical doctor before she decided to turn into a professional mountain biker. She has won countless medals as an MTB rider.
3.Deborah Herold
A 25-year-old from the island of Andaman and Nicobar, Deborah is a track cyclist. She is the first-ever Indian cyclist to make it to the UCI rankings in the 500m time trail. It was her stellar show during the 2015 Track Asia Cup which molded India as a force in the cycling world. The youngster was ranked world number 4 in the 500m time trial in the year 2015. A serious knee injury in 2017 hampered her career quite a bit but she was back and helped India to a bronze medal in the Womens Elite Team Sprint along with Aleena Reji during the 2019 Track Asia Cup.
4.Rameshwori Devi
She is a retired track cyclist. A CID officer and a mother of two, she is one of Indias earliest stars in cycling. Rameshwori has won a total of 102 medals in her career including a silver in the 2005 Asian Cycling Championships.
These inspiring women continue to light the dreams of many other young girls who aspire to become just like them.
